  1. Anthony,

Are you still doing a lot of running? Any marathons or ultras?

I’m getting ready to make a transition to marathons. I’ll be running the Chicago in October and the Indianapolis Monumental in October. In addition, I’m considering The Huff 50K in Huntington in February. Do you have any advice when it comes to marathons?

What have you been up to? If you ever in Indiana, give me a call. It would be good to catch up.

    • Hey Eric!
Yes I am still running. At least 5-6 days out of the week. I am not currently training for any marathons, but I want to get back into it as soon as I can make time for it. My biggest advice for running a marathon would be to run how you feel and enjoy it as much as you can. In my opinion, it is also wise to rest and take it easy 5-7 days before the event. When I ran New York I toured the city all day the day before the marathon. I finished, but the last miles were a killer. But, that is just me, it may be different for others. It’s awesome that you are running! Chicago was, and is still on my list.

What am I up to? Being a husband and a dad mostly…which I love with a deep satisfaction! Next time I am in Indiana I will give you a call. I would love to hang out.

  2. Good to hear from you! I’ve been studying Jeff Galloway’s book on marathon training. He gave the same advice on taking it all in during your first marathon. I’m going to follow the advice and not run with a time goal. My goal is to finish wanting to race another marathon. I’ll probably try to run near a 10 min mile or just a little faster – for half marathons, 15Ks, etc. I can usually run around 8:30/mi or quicker. So, I plan to really dial my pace back.

When you start training for another marathon, let me know. I would like to start traveling to races in different States. Maybe we could find one out West to run – just not the Western States 100, at least not yet! Sarah and I would enjoy the short vacation.

Glad to hear that life is going well! I look forward to reading your blog! Stay in touch.

    • The Western States 100? You are really becoming an extreme athlete! Let’s just skip that and go for the Badwater Ultra-marathon out in Death Valley! Speaking of which…have you read Dean Karnazes books? If not check out his web site at http://www.ultramarathonman.com . They are my favorite books on endurance and running. I will let you know when I begin training for another. It would be awesome to get out and run with you. My mom has mentioned doing the Walt Disney World Marathon in Florida sometime in the future. If we go for it, I will let you know.

Greet your wife and parents from the Feola’s in Phoenix.

  3. Yes, I just finished Ultra Marathon Man. I’m currently reading Going Long by Runner’s World. When done, I’ll probably read Dean Karnazes’ 50 In 50. Thanks for the link to his website, but it’s already in my favorites!

Have you read Born to Run? If not, it’s a great read.

What the heck, lets go stright to the Badwater race.

As to Disney, my running partner is doing the Goofy Medal – 1/2 marathon on Friday and full marathon on Saturday. I would love to do one of the races at Disney. If you plan a trip let me know. I’m kicking around the goal of a marathon in each state before my 50th birthday. So, I’m up for any race outside of Indiana.

Feel free to email me at my hotmail address. Let me know if you need it.

  4. Anthony,
Now why did I not know you are a runner?? I’ve read Anna’s FB posts about her running…but never put it together for you. Anyway, I wish we had gotten more time to talk in PHX. It was good to reconnect with you. You may want to check out one FL’s products that an ultra marathoner named Lisa Smith-Batchen has endorsed. She just finished 2500 miles in 63 days. Right. She did 50 miles in all 50 states to raise 1$ million for an AIDS orphan cause she supports. A catholic nun inspired her and helped her do the run. We met her that weekend because she credited a product we call “Jule” with helping her recovery time as she rested while they traveled to the next state. Check out http://www.runhope.com
God bless you my friend! WJ

    • Hey Wayne!

Yep, I have been a runner since I was in 3rd grade. NYC is the only full marathon I have run, but have done several half marathons. There was a time I did biathlons also (running/biking). It was great to see you in PHX. I am now on Facebook also, so I look forward to connecting with you more often. Stay in touch!!

  5. Hi again. By reading the posts here I realize you guys know about ultra marathoners. I heard Lisa say she had run the Badwater 135. You may be interested in her sites. Just google her name.

    Just a downhill skier.

  7. I just found your blog, searching under “Phoenix First.” I have been searching for a small group to fellowship with. (Weds. nights is too short, Prayer chapter is not interactive enough, Singles group was like a mini sermon). Do you have any advice on a bible study or group that you have connected with that you could suggest? Looking for strong fellowship with “advanced” Christians. Laughing at myself now, “advanced” perhaps wasn’t the best word but hopefully you see the well meaning behind it.
